My Native American Flute story…

The flute was probably the instrument that brought me back to making music after several years. I sold my guitar when I got married 13 years ago, and just hadn’t really played an instrument since then. I bought my wife a guitar a few years ago because she wanted to learn, but life intervened and neither of us really played it much.

So, I was going through a particularly stressful time. I won’t go into the details, but suffice it to say I was very stressed, more than I ever have been about anything - and this was an ongoing, daily situation. In the summer of 2005, my wife and I went to hear a special speaker at a church, who happens to play the Native American Flute as part of his music ministry. I’ve heard him play it a few times and it always sounded very nice. But this time it was a little different. It was exactly what I needed at the time, and I knew that I wanted to get one. That night I went online and started shopping around. I quickly decided on a High Spirits flute, because they looked great and sounded great in the audio clips. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford one at the time, and just accepted the fact that I’d have to wait until Christmas, which was six months away.

In the meantime, I got a few whistles. :-)

In November, we were able to attend a local Powwow and hear some of the flutes first-hand. Surprisingly, my wife recommended that I get a Golden Eagle, which was one of High Spirits’ more expensive flutes. I liked the sound as well, and figured I’d spend the extra money and get the sound I wanted the first time.

So for Christmas 2005, my wife and my mom got together and got me a High Spirits Golden Eagle. It’s a great looking and great sounding flute, and I’ve been very happy with it. I haven’t been playing it as often since I’ve been spending more time on the ukulele and whistle, but I do still play. Of the three instruments I play the most, it’s the most relaxing and therapeutic. I can spend 30 minutes playing and feel relaxed and satisfied.

I highly recommend picking one up if you could use a little peace and relaxation time.

Thanks,

Jason
